Close to half of all families now are “interfaith” in some sense: from two or more religions, religious/non-religious, or atheists with different religious heritages. This course will build skills for creating a successful and joyful interfaith family, whether you choose one religion, two religions, many, or none. Using interactive exercises from instructor Susan Katz Miller’s book The Interfaith Family Journal, we will wrestle with how to honor our religious heritages, discern our dreams for being an interfaith family, find community, mark holidays and life cycle transitions, and create a positive framework for interacting with extended family.

Susan Katz Miller is a former Newsweek reporter, and author of The Interfaith Family Journal (2019) and Being Both: Embracing Two Religions in One Interfaith Family (2013). She has written for The Washington Post, Moment, The Forward, and many other publications, and has spoken at universities, conferences and retreats including Rabbis Without Borders, Union Theological Seminary, Harvard Divinity School, and the Parliament of World’s Religions.
