A study sheet on the evolving concept of teshuvah over the ages. Rabbi Toba Spitzer notes that in preparing this sheet, she purposefully refrained (most of the time) from translating the word “teshuvah” because of the very different approaches of each text. After reading these, what is your definition?

Rosh Hashanah Message 2018
This Rosh Hashanah, I am thinking hard about the theme of zikhronot, or remembering. In this short video, I explore the theme of remembering and how it is an essential part of seeking teshuvah, or repentance. These High Holidays, I ask you to join me and Jews across the world in engaging in deep reflection and teshuvah. May we find the inspiration and courage to do our own personal work (tikkun nefesh, repair of the soul or self) and to work toward justice (tikkun olam, repair of the world).
