  1. Making Decisions on Controversial Issues

    Every congregation (or havurah) faces disagreements, in which particular individuals or sub-groups feel compelled to challenge the status quo. While these disputes are often resolved amicably, they can also result in individuals feeling a need to leave the group, or in some instances, a group of individuals feeling a need to start a new group based on the point of conflict. None of these results is necessarily bad or wrong. But there are times when such disagreements create a negative atmosphere and hurt feelings that never heal.

    This printable resource pairs selected quotes from Solomon Northup’s autobiographical memoir, 12 Years a Slave, with quotes from the Exodus and other Jewish texts.   3. Kaplan Center Peoplehood Conference Resources

    On April 10 and 11 in Philadelphia Jewish scholars, leaders, educators, and Rabbis gathered together for a two day conference on Jewish peoplehood co-sponsored by the Kaplan Center for Jewish Peoplehood, the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College, the Department of Religion of Temple University, and the National Museum of American Jewish History.

It also has proved useful for adult education classes for a brief review of Kaplan’s life before delving into other topics of Kaplanian or Reconstructionist thought.     This guide explores how to discuss God with children; it relates theological concepts to the natural world, human relationships and other parts of a child's world. It was first published in Creative Jewish Education (editors Rabbis Jeffrey Schein and Jacob Staub); it was later reprinted in The Reconstructionist (1986).
