DT Beshalakh Joel Hecker - Staff and Zohar
“Raise your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea and split it apart, that the Israelites may come into the midst of the sea on dry land” (Exodus 14:16).
What is the nature of this staff? Is it a walking stick? Sign of God’s power? Or magical device?

Reconstructing Jewish Communities Panel Learning Module
On the opening night of the Reconstructing Judaism Convention in November of 2018, an extraordinary panel of rabbis reflected on a crucial question: how do we reconstruct Jewish communities in this time and place, to meet tomorrow’s challenges? We’ve divided up the conversation into five sessions, and supplied material for reflection and discussion. We hope you’ll find this conversation as thought-provoking as we did.

Silence as Protest (AKA The World of Silence) - Pinkhas DT Howard Cohen
Silence in the world of verbal communication can be as complicated to interpret and as deliberate as any word choice. We are often as careful (or should be) about when we choose to remain silent as we are about the words we use to convey a message. In the world of printed words, silence is every bit as powerful as in the audio world. However, it is much more difficult to indicate.

Who Was Korakh DT Lewis Eron
During the forty years in the wilderness, Moses faced a number of challenges to his leadership. Some arose out of our ancestors’ sense of loss and deprivation. Others centered on issues of policy. The most threatening of these challenges, however, was the constitutional crisis brought about by Korakh’s attempt to supplant both Moses as political leader and Aaron as High Priest.

Fred Dobb Eco-Judaism session - Global Day 2016
“Love of the Creator, and love of that which G!d has created, are finally one and the same,” wrote Martin Buber. Defending this divine creation in an era of climate change is a Jewish (and social, political, and moral) imperative. A rich Jewish life is by nature an environmental one, though we need to pick up the pace, draw more explicit connections, and make our community a beacon of sustainability.

High Holiday Message 5778 (2017)
At Rosh Hashanah, as we turn to new beginnings, we seek to repent—to do teshuvah—for what we have done wrong. And we can also affirmatively foster ourselves toward resilience—toward a thriving, loving outlook in spite of whatever challenges we encounter in life. In this video, I explore themes of resilience embedded into Jewish practice.
