  2. Rosh Hashanah Message 2018

This Rosh Hashanah, I am thinking hard about the theme of zikhronot, or remembering. In this short video, I explore the theme of remembering and how it is an essential part of seeking teshuvah, or repentance. These High Holidays, I ask you to join me and Jews across the world in engaging in deep reflection and teshuvah. May we find the inspiration and courage to do our own personal work (tikkun nefesh, repair of the soul or self) and to work toward justice (tikkun olam, repair of the world).

  5. Congregation Dor Hadash was a target for its immigrant advocacy — and the shooting did not stop that work

A year after the antisemitic, anti-immigrant attack on the Tree of Life synagogue, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that Reconstructionist Congregation Dor Hadash has responded by doubling down on its commitment to help refugees, immigrants and asylum seekers. “We who are still alive have an obligation to honor the memory of those who are no longer with us by doing acts of loving kindness, doing socially conscious things to make the world a better place. That’s how Dor Hadash operates,” said Dan Leger, the Dor Hadash member injured in the shooting.

Reconstructing Judaism was among fifteen organizations co-sponsoring the following statement, which was organized by Bend the Arc.

We remember the 11 Jews murdered at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh one year ago.

As Jews and allies, we reject fear and division, and we embrace diversity and inclusion.

We commit to organize toward a vibrant, multiracial democracy. #OurSolidarityWill build a country where all of us can be free and safe, no matter what we look like or where we come from.
