  1. As Pittsburgh Attack Anniversary Nears, 60 Minutes Explores Aftermath and Response

“I’ve always had my faith, so I can’t imagine not. It hasn’t impacted my belief in God, Godliness or goodness in the world,” Miri Rabinowitz, widow of Dr. Jerry Rabinowitz, told Lesley Stahl of CBS 60 Minutes.

  2. Congregation Dor Hadash was a target for its immigrant advocacy — and the shooting did not stop that work

A year after the antisemitic, anti-immigrant attack on the Tree of Life synagogue, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that Reconstructionist Congregation Dor Hadash has responded by doubling down on its commitment to help refugees, immigrants and asylum seekers. “We who are still alive have an obligation to honor the memory of those who are no longer with us by doing acts of loving kindness, doing socially conscious things to make the world a better place. That’s how Dor Hadash operates,” said Dan Leger, the Dor Hadash member injured in the shooting.

  3. One Year After Pittsburgh, Jews and Allies Pledge Solidarity

Reconstructing Judaism was among fifteen organizations co-sponsoring the following statement, which was organized by Bend the Arc.

We remember the 11 Jews murdered at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh one year ago.

As Jews and allies, we reject fear and division, and we embrace diversity and inclusion.

We commit to organize toward a vibrant, multiracial democracy. #OurSolidarityWill build a country where all of us can be free and safe, no matter what we look like or where we come from.

(This teaching on Parashat Ki Teitzei was given by Seth Rosen, chair of our board of governors, at Congregation Dor Hadash, Pittsburgh, Pa., on Sept. 14, 2019 — eleven months after the synagogue attack.)

    Shabbat shalom!

I want to begin by telling you what a privilege it is to stand in front of this community, and how grateful my wife Joan and I are for your invitation to be a part of this congregation, even if only for one Shabbat weekend.

  9. You Should Live To Be 120

Every Shabbat morning during services at the Jewish Geriatric Home, our residents, our volunteers, our guests and I pause to offer thanksgiving for the joyous events in our lives. There is always a simcha or two for us to celebrate— a birthday or an anniversary, a grandchild’s engagement, a great grandchild’s Bris— always a happy occurrence.
