  2. Rosh Hashanah Message 2018

This Rosh Hashanah, I am thinking hard about the theme of zikhronot, or remembering. In this short video, I explore the theme of remembering and how it is an essential part of seeking teshuvah, or repentance. These High Holidays, I ask you to join me and Jews across the world in engaging in deep reflection and teshuvah. May we find the inspiration and courage to do our own personal work (tikkun nefesh, repair of the soul or self) and to work toward justice (tikkun olam, repair of the world).

  5. And She Persisted: One Trailblazing Rabbi Rescues the Story of Another From History’s Ashes

“Some parents did not see the point of their daughters studying Torah. But Regina persisted. She told them ‘There have been lots of strong Jewish women. Miriam, Deborah and Esther were leaders from the Bible, brave and wise. Your daughters can do great things someday, too.’”

Reconstructing Judaism and the Reconstructionist Rabbinical Association condemn the terrorist attack that killed two Israeli civilians, Kim Levengrond Yehezkel, 29, and Ziv Hajbi, 35. May their memories be a blessing.  The attack took place in a factory at an industrial complex in the West Bank, and was carried out by a Palestinian young man. Our condolences are with the family and friends of the victims, and we hope for a full recovery for the wounded.

  9. In Praise of Movements

Two November events loom as I write this column: the mid-term elections on November 6, and the first Reconstructionist movement-wide convention in a decade, a week later.  The first admittedly will have far more impact on the world than the latter, but they are linked in my mind for one important reason: movements matter.

  10. Diving Into the Tank: Spotlighting Social Entrepreneurship Models at Convention

What ideas are Jewish communities exploring to reach unengaged and under-engaged populations in new ways and spaces? What conversations are taking place about how to fund such ideas? How can communities gain the confidence to try, and possibly fail, in order to implement the next idea?
