Inclusion and Disabilities: Hebrew and English Texts
For Jewish Disabilities Awareness month in February of 2014, Rabbi Michelle Greenfield, RRC ’12 examined the Torah readings found that month with an eye toward issues of inclusion and disability. She also included “Some Biblical and Rabbinic Sources on Disability: An Honest Look,” in which she examines the use and misuse of Hebrew texts that are often quoted when talking about inclusion of people with different abilities. Her English commentary provides a deeper understanding of these texts' strengths and limitations.

Yigdal Reconstructionist Text Study
Yigdal, one of the most beloved of the medieval piyyutim (liturgical poems), appears as an opening hymn in the daily morning service. Yigdal summarizes the thirteen principles of the Jewish faith as formulated by Moses Maimonides (RaMBaM; late 12th century C.E.) in his Mishnah commentary on Sanhedrin 10:1.Reconstructionists often proudly assert that when we pray with a Reconstructionist siddur, we feel that we can 'say what we mean and mean what we say,' because our liturgical language reflects Reconstructionist theology.https://archive.reconstructingjudaism.org/document/yigdal-reconstructionist-examination

Teshuvah Study Sheet - Recon approach - Toba Spitzer
A study sheet on the evolving concept of teshuvah over the ages. Rabbi Toba Spitzer notes that in preparing this sheet, she purposefully refrained (most of the time) from translating the word “teshuvah” because of the very different approaches of each text. After reading these, what is your definition?

Nancy F-K Tazria Metzora Dvar Torah
Last week there appeared in my mailbox at RRC, a book that I had never heard of by someone who was also unknown to me. The book is called The Plausible God: Secular Reflections on Liberal Jewish Theology. The author, Mitchell Silver, is a Professor of Philosophy at the University of Massachusetts, and a devout secular Jew. His book was occasioned by a growing realization that all of his good philosophical arguments against religion were really arguments against traditional theism, the “old God” as he calls Him. And I use the word “Him” advisedly here.
