Shutafut Organizations - Shared Society
“Shared Society” is the popular term in Israel for efforts to create and strengthen cross-cultural and interreligious civic life in Israel. There are dozens of civic and national organizations deeply immersed in the work of building understanding, co-existence, and mutual respect between Jewish Israelis and Palestinian citizens of Israel, Bedouin, Druze, and other minority groups. These groups are deeply committed to protecting and strengthening Israeli democracy and to nurturing a national culture of civility, freedom, and respect for diversity.

Shutafut Organizations - Religious Pluralism
Because of the specific legal powers that Israel’s government grants its official Orthodox rabbinic institutions, non-Orthodox expressions of religious Judaism are often not recognized or supported by the State. At the same time, Reconstructionist, Reform, Conservative, Renewal, Liberal and other progressive movements of Judaism have grown in popularity and influence in Israel in recent years.

New Israel Landing Page
Reconstructionist Judaism has long viewed Israel as an essential element of Jewish peoplehood. Rabbi Mordecai Kaplan (1881-1983), the founder of Reconstructionism, supported a Zionism grounded in three core values: Jewish survival, Jewish cultural and religious renaissance, and Jewish ethical nationhood. He promoted a vision in which two vibrant centers of Jewish life – Israel and North America – would productively and fruitfully support, shape, and when needed, give feedback and critique to each other.
