  1. JRF Israel Task Force Report

This 2004 report from the Jewish Reconstructionist Federationemerged from a movement-wide process that solicited thoughtful input from Reconstructionists across the country. A dedicated committee of rabbis and lay people developed the positions and proposals laid out in the report. While the Task Force’s proposals were never implemented, our revived Israel Task Force will be using the 2004 report as our foundation for moving forward. While much has changed since it was written., most of the earlier report’s framework and recommendations are still compelling and sound.

  5. Israel at 70

By Rabbi Maurice Harris on behalf of Reconstructing Judaism.

“From tiny roots.” That was the caption on a popular poster a few decades ago, depicting tiny roots growing underground but manifesting above into a beautiful young tree — a metaphor celebrating the improbable fact of a flourishing, strong, and vibrant Israel. The image inspired both awe and anxiety: awe at the astonishing accomplishments of the little Jewish state in such a short time span, and anxiety about the fragility of those tiny roots, despite all that had grown resilient and sturdy from them.

The Israeli grassroots social action organization, Zazim – Community Action, is mobilizing Israelis to call on the Central Elections Committee of Knesset to protect the Knesset from Kahanists. Over 13,000 Israelis have already signed onto Zazim’s petition expressing their conviction that Kahanists have no place in the Knesset and represent a fundamental threat to Israel’s core democratic values.
