  4. Text Study for Board Meetings

    The Department for Thriving Communities is pleased to share our annual publication, A Little Text Study for Board Meetings, developed for affiliates of the Reconstructionist movement. These documents each feature 12 months’ worth of single-paged text handouts, which synagogue boards (or education committees, etc.) are invited to use for a bit of Torah study at the beginning of meetings.

  8. Jews, Race, and Religion Lecture 10: Mizrahi Resistance and Pride

    Mizrahi Jews in Israel, like other minorities of color, have been suffering from institutionalized racism inflicted on them by Ashkenazi Jews, based on their racial and ethnic Otherness. Reversing the gaze away from this official Zionist narrative of Modern Israel, the main purpose of this lecture is to introduce students to a counter story of Modern Israel told from the perspective of Mizrahi Jews with special regard to the socio-legal oppression and racism inflicted against them encompassing many aspects of their lives from housing to education, the media, health etc.

  10. Jews, Race, and Religion Lecture 8: Ethiopian Hebrews in Early 20th Century Harlem

    This presentation focuses on early twentieth-century congregations in Harlem in which members claimed Ethiopian Hebrew and navigated race and religion among Black Christians and Jews of European descent.
