Statement on Terror Attack at Entrance to Temple Mount
RRC/Jewish Reconstructionist Communities and the Reconstructionist Rabbinical Association express our condemnation of today’s terror attack at the entrance to the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. We mourn the loss of the lives of the two Israeli Border Police officers who were shot and killed, Advanced Staff Sgt. Maj. Hael Sathawi and Advanced Staff Sgt. Maj. Kamil Shanan. May their memories be a blessing and may all who mourn find comfort.

Embracing Our Sorrows
Tisha B’Av (The Ninth Day of Av) is a 24-hour fast that is observed this week. Traditionally, it is a big deal. It is the only 24-hour fast on the Jewish calendar besides Yom Kippur. Jews commemorate the destruction of the Second Jerusalem Temple in 70 C.E. and many other calamitous events that have occurred throughout our history.
Why do we harp on sorrowful events that occurred so many centuries ago? It is a legitimate question.

Statement on Charlottesville
The Reconstructionist Rabbinical College and Jewish Reconstructionist Communities condemns in the strongest terms the white supremacist groups that gathered in Charlottesville, VA, over the weekend to promote racism, anti-Semitism, and other ideologies of bigotry. Our hearts go out to the family of Heather Heyer, the anti-hate demonstrator who was killed in what has been accurately characterized by the U.S.
