    Learn. Act. Connect.

These three verbs, in many ways, encapsulate what it means to live as a Reconstructionist Jew today. By design, they are the first three menu items on the recently redesigned www.jewishrecon.org.

Reconstructing Judaism, along with six Reconstructionist congregations, is partnering with the Harold Grinspoon Foundation in a pilot project to enhance the teaching of values in religious schools. 9. Embracing our Sorrows

Tisha B’Av (The Ninth Day of Av) is a 24-hour fast that is observed this week. Traditionally, it is a big deal. It is the only 24-hour fast on the Jewish calendar besides Yom Kippur. Jews commemorate the destruction of the Second Jerusalem Temple in 70 C.E. and many other calamitous events that have occurred throughout our history.

Why do we harp on sorrowful events that occurred so many centuries ago? It is a legitimate question.

  10. Statement on the Har Adar Terrorist Attack

RRC / Jewish Reconstructionist Communities and the Reconstructionist Rabbinical Association condemn the terrorist attack that took place in the West Bank settlement of Har Adar. We mourn the murder of border police officer Solomon Gavriyah, 20, and civilian security guards Youssef Ottman, 25, and Or Arish, also 25, and we hope for a full recovery for an additional security guard who was seriously wounded in the attack. We are grateful that the swift action of those who gave their lives prevented what could have been a much larger number of casualties.
