Congregational Safety Resources
In the months since the October 2018 Pittsburgh synagogue attack, we have been sharing resources with Reconstructionist communities that address questions of how to make our synagogues safer while also upholding Jewish values of racial justice, interfaith community building, and equity. This page gathers together what we’ve shared so far with our educators, executive directors and presidents.

Key Tips For Talking With News Professionals
Positive media coverage can amplify your voice, inform the public about key issues and build further credibility for your community. It’s a chance to share, in the public square, Reconstructionist values like pluralism and diversity, as well as remind audiences that there’s no one way to do and to be Jewish. At the same time, a negative story can negatively impact your community’s reputation. Here are key tips for speaking with journalists.

Reopening Synagogue Buildings Guide
In June 2020, a working group made up of staff at the Reform, Conservative and Reconstructionist movements collaborated, with major support from the Secure Community Network, on putting together a “Guide to the Considerations about Re-Opening Synagogue Buildings.” The document offers synagogues some guidance and suggested methodical steps for decision-making and implementation of re-opening plans.

Building the Jewish Future
My rabbinical career has been anything but planned. I would be a career counselor’s worst nightmare: the conventional ladder of professional advancement has never suited me. Instead, I’ve tried to think boldly about what the Jewish community needs, and have done my best to build institutions that could address those needs.

Plenum
What Is the Plenum?
The plenum of the Reconstructionist movement is a group of representatives from each affiliated congregation and havurah who discuss and share the issues of the day, both internal movement discussions and thoughts on the movement’s relationship to the world. In order to foster that kind of discussion, the goal is to create a stable group, where representatives stay engaged with the plenum for a couple of years or more.
