Ritualwell’s ADVOT Creates Poetic Community
This article was originally published in the Jewish Exponent by Sasha Rogelberg.
Before Ritualwell was a website containing more than 2,200 liturgy and rituals crowdsourced by Jews, it was an idea of where to put dozens of scraps of paper in the drawers of offices in the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College and Kolot: Center for Jewish Women’s and Gender Studies in Wyncote.

Synagogues and Congregants: A COVID Covenant - Nathan Weiner eJP
When COVID-19 hit, synagogues closed their physical doors, pivoting their presence online. Synagogue clergy, staff, and lay leadership went into overdrive to figure out how to bring meaningful and spirit filled Jewish encounter to congregants in this new environment - an effect that was important, difficult, new, scary, sacred, and above all, imperfect.

Cross-Movement Resource Guide Published on Re-Opening Synagogue Buildings
This past month, a working group made up of staff at the Reform, Conservative and Reconstructionist movements collaborated, with major support from the Secure Community Network, on putting together a “Guide to the Considerations about Re-Opening Synagogue Buildings.” The document offers synagogues some guidance and suggested methodical steps for decision-making and implementation of re-opening plans.

Forces of Nature - RENA Jan 2020
In October, enormous winds blew off parts of Congregation Beth Evergreen’s (CBE) sukkah. In early December, even stronger winds hurled a giant tree branch onto the roof of the synagogue with such force that it penetrated through to the inside of the building, leaving gaping holes and several surreal-looking limbs pointing down as if, given the season, a reindeer stepped through and got stuck.

Reconstructionist Affiliates, Rabbis Push for More Just Immigration System
Members of Bet Am Shalom in White Plains, N.Y., a few years ago, embarked on a quintessentially Reconstructionist process. In a deliberate and participatory fashion, the community, guided by its Tikkun Olam Chevra, chose one issue on which to focus its education, advocacy and direct service efforts. The options — hunger, economic inequality, climate change and immigration — represented large, social problems with systematic and political dimensions.

Deborah April Column
What does a thriving synagogue look like? I was recently asked to be on a panel at a conference on this topic. To prepare, I sat down — in true Reconstructionist style —with Seth Rosen, the chair of our board of governors; Tresa Grauer, who was recently promoted to become vice president for thriving communities; and almost-rabbi Micah Weiss, who will graduate from RRC in June, and just started working with us as assistant director of the Thriving Communities department and tikkun olam specialist.
