    Adina Newberg is an Israeli living and working in the United States. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania.  After teaching for many years at the University of Pennsylvania and at the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College she has retired from teaching but continues to pursue her research interests.  Her areas of research include various aspects of contemporary Jewish liberal religion in both countries, as well as issues of adult change and transformation through learning.

    The current controversy brewing in the Hillel universe is only the latest example of a Jewish community polarized over how we can or can’t talk about Israel. The guidelines, developed by national Hillel in 2010, were designed to provide a basis upon which a local Hillel could prevent overtly anti-Israel groups from speaking under the Hillel banner.

  7. Marriage Equality and Religious Freedom

    On a recent evening in Scarsdale, N.Y., I was at the Mid-Westchester JCC, speaking on a panel to a packed and spirited room. We’d been invited to discuss marriage equality and Jewish values, and the tone was certainly celebratory. We acknowledged we have farther to go, but in light of the Supreme Court’s decision last year on gay marriage, we’ve certainly come a long way.

Ehrenkrantz draws on many years of experience in nonprofit leadership.
